This first post is as much for me as it is for you, really.
I’d like this blog to be a place where my roughly hewn thoughts can gambol happily through the elysian fields of the internet and, through their inevitable evisceration by the denizens of the dark woods of public opinion, be distilled into shiny rocks of insight. (I think I should also promise to not write like that ever again.)
I intend to comment on local news stories, reports, and events with the eye of a skeptic, and also to explain the skeptical viewpoint. I want to promote local research and cool science and interesting people. Actually I’ll probably talk about my own research, and maybe some of the research my lab-mates do. I will talk about open standards in government, in law, in research, in business.
But don’t let that scare you away – I’m also a total nerd, so I’ll also talk about gaming and programming and magic, and share links to stuff I think is cool (though I promise to limit most of that sort of thing to my Twitter account).
If I don’t adhere to this manifesto, well, you can always tell me to look at my first post as a reminder.
